INEC Set for Osun Poll As Sensitive Election Materials Arrive CBN

According to IReporter Online, the election materials were transported from Abuja in trucks and were being offloaded at the CBN facility as preparations intensified across the state.

The distribution of the materials to the 30 local government areas was initially scheduled to commence at 8am on Thursday. However, as of about 9:50pm, the offloading exercise was still ongoing, resulting in a delay to the planned distribution timetable.

The development reportedly followed INEC’s decision to reprint ballot papers after the late inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the final list of contestants for the governorship election.

With the addition of the SDP candidate, the number of contenders in the race increased from 14 to 15, necessitating the production of fresh ballot papers.

The additional printing exercise is believed to have affected the commission’s original schedule for distributing the sensitive materials across the state.

After the offloading exercise is completed, the materials are expected to be dispatched to the 30 local government areas before being moved to the various polling units ahead of voting.

The sensitive materials include ballot papers, result sheets and other essential documents required for the accreditation, voting, counting and collation of results during the election.

The arrival of the materials comes less than 48 hours before voters across Osun State are expected to cast their ballots to determine who will emerge as the next governor of the state.
