A faction of the Accord Party led by its National Chairman and presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn its support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and endorsed the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

According to Ireporter Online, Imumolen announced the decision on Thursday during the APC mega rally held in Osun State, just days before the August 15, 2026 governorship poll.

Speaking at the rally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, disclosed that he had been informed that the Accord faction had abandoned its previous position and decided to support Oyebamiji.

In a symbolic demonstration of the decision, Imumolen removed the yellow cap associated with the Accord Party in Osun and replaced it with an APC-branded cap, signalling his support for the ruling party’s candidate.

A video from the event also showed the discarded yellow cap being thrown into the air by an unidentified individual.

Declaring the faction’s new position, Imumolen said members of the Accord Party in Osun State should mobilise to their respective polling units and cast their votes for Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

He further expressed confidence that the APC candidate would emerge victorious in Saturday’s election and subsequently be sworn in as the next governor of Osun State.

The development comes as the major political parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation efforts ahead of the closely watched governorship election.

Meanwhile, Akpabio assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a peaceful election.

The Senate President, who conveyed President Tinubu’s greetings to the people of Osun, encouraged eligible voters to come out and exercise their franchise without fear.

He also urged residents to consider supporting the APC as a means of strengthening the state’s relationship with the Federal Government.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also addressed APC supporters at the rally, urging them to remain confident and turn out in large numbers to vote for Oyebamiji.

AbdulRazaq equally appealed to party members and other political actors to shun violence before, during and after the election.

On his part, Oyebamiji promised to establish an inclusive and people-focused administration if elected governor.

The APC candidate said his administration would prioritise policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents, insisting that the election would give the people an opportunity to determine the direction of the state.

The APC rally was attended by several prominent party figures, including National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande and Senator Iyiola Omisore.
