Falconets Land In Poland Ahead Of England Round Of 16 Clash

Nigeria’s Falconets have arrived in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, ahead of their Round of 16 encounter with England at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

According to reports, the knockout clash is scheduled to take place at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium on Thursday, with kick-off set for 2pm Nigerian time.

The Falconets secured their place in the knockout stage after producing a commanding 10-1 victory over tournament debutants New Caledonia in their final group-stage fixture.

Moses Aduku’s side began their campaign in Sosnowiec, where they faced Spain and China, before travelling to Lodz for their final Group C match against New Caledonia.

Nigeria finished second in the group with four points from three matches after suffering defeat to Spain, drawing with China and recording a convincing victory over New Caledonia.

England also advanced from the group stage in second position with four points, finishing behind group winners Brazil.

The Young Lionesses progressed to the Round of 16 after finishing level with Canada on points, goal difference and goals scored.

The upcoming encounter will determine which team advances to the quarter-finals, with Nigeria carrying the hopes of Africa after Tanzania, Ghana and Benin Republic were eliminated from the competition.

The Falconets will enter the contest with renewed confidence following their emphatic victory over New Caledonia, but face a tough test against an England side determined to progress.

Nigeria also have a positive record against England at this level. The Falconets defeated the Young Lionesses 2-1 during their group-stage meeting at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, with Loveth Ayila and Asisat Oshoala finding the net for Nigeria.

With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, the Falconets will be hoping to repeat that success and continue their impressive run at the tournament.
