Interviewer Asks Peter Obi The Billionaire Question — See His Response
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has clarified his billionaire status, explaining that he qualifies as a billionaire when his wealth is measured in Nigerian naira but not in US dollars.
According to reports, Obi made the clarification during an interview after being directly asked whether he was a billionaire.
The interviewer asked, “Are you a billionaire or are you not a billionaire?”
Responding to the question, Obi said he was a billionaire in naira but not in dollars, noting that global billionaire rankings are typically calculated using the US dollar.
“Yes, I’m a billionaire in Naira. But not in dollars. You know they usually measure billionaires in dollars. But in Naira, yes. Capital yes,” Obi said.
His response suggests that while the value of his assets and capital may place him in the billionaire category when denominated in naira, he does not consider himself a billionaire based on US-dollar valuation.
The clarification comes amid continued public discussions surrounding Obi’s wealth, business background and financial standing, particularly his financial position before and during his time in public office.
