APC Fires At PDP Says Umahi, Orji Kalu Has No Plans Of Leaving Party

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi State chapter on Friday said Governor David Umahi and former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu can never defect to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2023 general election approaches.

The Party gave the assurance in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ogbuatu Chidi Simbad and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The statement reads in part, “The former governor of Abia State Chief Orji Uzor Kalu and governor of Ebonyi State Chief David Umahi is not desperate to return to PDP”

The APC leadership was reacting to a rumour making the rounds in the southeast zone that Umahi and Orji Uzor has perfected plans to dump the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the 2023 election in the country.

“We in Ebonyi APC wish to say that the news is not only fake, laughable but also gibberish and jaundiced as the Chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum, the Leader of our great party, All Progressives Congress APC and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Nweze Umahi, has at no time and will never plan to return to People’s Democratic Party PDP.

“Umahi’s defection to the national party did not come to him as stupefaction, neither did he join for selfish enrichment. The defection was a well-thought movement that was decided in the greater interest of Ebonyi State in particular and the Southeast in general.

“Umahi saw the need to toe the line of the former nationalists like Late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa) and others from Southeast who had always believed in the politics of the centre, consequent upon his decision to take our dear state and Southeast to the grid of national politics.

The party said the South-East zone has a greater chance to succeed in APC, especially as the 2023 general election approaches rather than in PDP and called on the citizens of the zone to support the APC administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Southeast zone has brighter chances and more promising in APC than in the PDP. The zone has partnered with PDP for 16yrs with nothing to show for it. Umahi defected to APC in order to join hands with a selfless leader President Muhammadu Buhari and other well-meaning Nigerians in taking Nigeria to the next level.

The leadership of the APC in Ebonyi State said the South-East zone has benefited so much Under President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC led government, adding that “Every part of Southeast has benefitted in infrastructural development and the only way to appreciate Mr President is to join him in the next level transformation agenda, and that is the leading reason Umahi defected to APC” the party said.
