2023 And Beyond: Why The Youths Must Drop Their Arrogance, Sentiment And Hit The Ground Running By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

Recently the Independent National Electoral Commission,  INEC released the scheduled date for the 2023 general elections with the presidential elections to be held on February 18, 2023.

Definitely, the 2023 general elections are eliciting so many expectations from Nigerians for obvious reasons. The current cost of living alone in the country is enough to evoke such feelings and sentiments, things keep rising with no hope of a reversal.

Citizens are disillusioned and many disenchanted over the current state of affairs of the Nation, it is so bad that no one can predict the direction things would go especially towards the economy and the purchasing ability of the individual.

Aside from the lost moral values which is also a consequence of the current plight plaguing us as a Nation the youths of today have completely gone docile and proven the maxim by President Buhari that they are indeed lazy.

As long as the youths of today sit back and expect the elders whom they accuse of ravaging the country to proffer solutions to their afflictions then they would remain stale to the detriment of their very own future laced with uncertainty.

“He who does not look ahead remains behind”, when has it ever been proven that one who orchestrates a problem remains the only solution to the puzzle? What efforts are the so-called youths deploying to make the future better?  After all, it is their future we are talking about here.

What energy besides ranting on social media has the youths deployed in solving their intricate problems?

They are full of pride and beclouded with sentiments, they fail to realize that time is ticking and the future is just around the corner. The painful aspect is that these same people have refused to learn and may, unfortunately, pay the ULTIMATE price for negligence.

To start with, these complainants have no unity of purpose and are not even interested in getting involved.

The teeth can only bite when they work together, unity is strength, when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.

It is only in this clime that we say we know our problems and we fail to work towards the solutions.

At what time and age do you want to become a participant? Many of these wailers who are in their thirties and early forties do not even belong to a political party, so how do they expect the changes they desire? They give flimsy excuses for staying away from the process and spend valuable time criticising without putting in the effort to birth the changes.

They want to make money, they want to be famous and have plenty of luxury around them and yet they do not want to sacrifice. The political system is wired in such a way that it encompasses both the Good the Bad and the Ugly to present the ideal template for administration or governance.

These people in their own little capacity do not even have the ability to manage a Wassapp group how much more a community. They do not even possess the moral and ethical values to administer, they want the shortest way through complicated issues and expect awesome results.

These old politicians started way back as kids and not even youths, these people never had the luxury of the internet which can gather millions of like-minds together in one place and yet far away from each other.

These old people they say are useless RELIED on their physical fitness, money, education and so many other material things to walk their way up and yet they took over and are still major players with the same archaic method, so who then is to blame, the old generation or the youths, that have refused to deploy their arsenals at their advantage to dislodge these old LAYERS?

If the youths claim to want a better Nigeria then they should sit up and perform the needful, they must drop their arrogance of “e no concern me”, “I am not a part of Nigeria” etc and put on their thinking cap.

Forget about the age and get to work. These people have the luxury of making the changes they wish right from the confines of their comfort zone but laziness and lack of creativity would not let them focus on their priorities. Look at their strengths when it comes to reality shows, today all the #BBNaija contestants have houses and nice careers because their fans supported them.

What stops these youths from extending this same support to themselves politically as well? If you say PDP and APC are DEAD parties what stops you from rallying behind youth leaders you can trust and empower them as you did to White Money of #BBNaija or Angel or Mercy? If you can raise stars yearly from the Big Brother Show why can’t you raise stars yearly politically?

Even if it means bringing in these same IDOLS to be the political icons you want to champion. You see politicians calling on Tinubu, Atiku, Kwankwanso etc to contest why are you not rallying around Obi Cubana, Cubana Chief Preist, Davido etc to represent you in the Senate, House of Reps, as Governors etc?

Why don’t they want to sacrifice a few hours of their time and participate in the electoral process?

They say Tinubu was sick in London yet his house was a Mecca for politicians in the same London, they say Atiku was in Dubai for vacation and yet his Dubai home was a convention ground for politicians, even when asleep these people are politicking.

The reverse is sadly the case with the so-called youths lamenting change.

How many youth pressure groups are out there representing the youths? If you want changes anywhere in the world it is you who seek changes that must generate the changes. It is common sense, abi when you dey find beta spouse to marry na person dey help you find am ?

The best time to plant a tree is now, set your vision and start planning towards it, if the APC and PDP can not guarantee what you expect then set up what you desire and start the battle towards liberation.

Zlantan Ibile don talk am say OVER THINKING NO DEY SOLVE PROBLEM, Ogbeni enter street put in the work. You wey dey say Tinubu no dey shame na the same Tinubu dey move everywhere they canvass support. What are you doing with your energy that you can’t do the same for the changes you require?

Even if it does not come to pass today it must surely come to pass one day, the age is not the limitation but the ideals and the zeal to work towards achieving the ideals are the restrictions here.

The public disgrace of the crocodile is equally the shame of the alligator, if the elders have failed it equally means the youths have failed in their responsibilities to take over from failures. Nobody would hand over power to you ” à la carte ” you must create your own dishes.

If you close your eyes to facts, you will learn through accidents, these so-called youths have continuously failed to do the needful by not participating in the electoral system. We keep forgetting that the earlier the better, elections are not always won on their first trial, it takes years of hard work to get victories.

Let me sign out with a glimpse of how the bleak future looks for those currently in their ’30s and early forties that are complacent but persistent wailers.

If you don’t put in the time you would grow old and end up leaving the stage unfulfilled and spend your dying days still complaining of a failed Nation.  Another man no suppose dey run another man race.
