Let There Be Light:  Communities Erupt In Wild Joy After Dennis Idahosa Restores Power After An 8-month Outage(photos)

Genesis 1:3: Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

This verse from the Bible emphasizes how vital light is to human existence. Our modern way of living is made possible by light.

Prior to the introduction of electricity, production was limited by the amount of light available. However, with the invention of electricity, we are now able to stay up late, come up with new ideas, be creative, and, quite literally, transform the world at rapid speed. Light plays a significant role in one’s existence.

Imagine the joy in some Ovia residents’ hearts when their light was restored after being off from the national grid for eight solid months due to the failure of an MVA transformer serving Iguobazuwa and other communities.

When their service transformer failed, the community resolved to pool its resources to raise at least N10 million, as required by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), for the transformer’s restoration.

All the while, the poor locals were gathering what little they could over the months till it came to the attention of Hon Dennis Idahosa, the lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, who instantly intervened.

He not only insisted that the money gathered thus far be returned to the contributors, but he also took it up from there, and today there is LIGHT.

The light was finally restored yesterday, prompting residents to gather in large numbers to celebrate the return of electricity, which powers their daily lives.

The Federal Legislator who personally put an end to their agony has been the subject of unending prayers for the past 24 hours.
