Tinubu Amends Timetable, See State To Host First Rally

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has announced that it’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will commence his inaugural rally in Jos, the Plateau State capital on November 15.

This was contained in a schedule of activities released on Thursday morning by the Chief Spokesman of the PCC, Festus Keyamo.

The development is coming after the party initially settled for Ilorin, Kwara State capital three weeks ago after a series of postponements following negotiations and disagreement among the party chieftains including governors and party National Working Committee over exclusion of their nominees from the campaign list.

The campaign season officially kicked off on September 28, while Tinubu was away in London on vacation.

While the presidential flag bearers of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have begun their campaigns in different regions, the ruling APC continued its consultation with stakeholders.

A couple of hours after it went viral on Thursday, the APC campaign council released an amended schedule of activities and timetable.

While the date of the presidential campaign rally, which officially flags off in Jos on November 15 remains intact, an arranged dinner with campaign patrons in Abuja was postponed from November 6 to 8.

According to the revised timetable, there will be series of rallies in Delta (19), Imo (21), Adamawa (24), Ogun (26), Enugu (29) and Sokoto (30), respectively. Between December 4 and 10, the campaign team will embark on international engagement with stakeholders in the Diaspora.

When quizzed on why the timetable was amended again, Keyamo told The Punch that the schedule of events and dates is a working draft that is still subject to further adjustment.

He said, “They are all subject to change or amendment as we progress due to human nature. Nobody expected the flood, for example. But it came and it slowed down activities and all that.

“So this is a working draft. At least, we have a draft to work with.’’

On why the party changed its venue from Ilorin to Jos in the space of three weeks, the minister declined to comment.

“I have no further comment on that. The reason for those decisions, we are not going to tell the public,” he said.
