Bolanle Raheem: Details Of Meeting Emerge As IGP Meets With Sanwo-Olu
Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has promised that justice will be served in the murder of a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem.
He made the pledge while receiving Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Thursday.
Raheem was murdered on Christmas Day in the state’s Ajah region. Many Nigerians have expressed outrage at her death.
Following a public outcry, police identified the trigger-happy cop as Drambi Vandi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police with 33 years of experience.

The IGP also clarified the identity of the police officer arrested in connection with the late Raheem’s murder.
He explained that, contrary to popular belief, the suspect, Drambi Vandi, confessed to the crime after being mistaken for the real culprit. He also promised that the case would be handled transparently, and that the perpetrator would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated in his remarks that his visit to the Force Headquarters is to brief the IGP on the security situation in Lagos and to get an update on the late lawyer’s case.
“We have come here this morning to get an update and also to brief him on the security situation in Lagos, especially the very recent unfortunate incident on the death of the late Mrs Raheem,” he said.
The governor condemned Raheem’s murder as well as the earlier murder of Gafaru Buraimoh, 31, of Land Estate, Ajah, by Ajiwe Police Station Lagos operatives.
He stated that he is working with police leadership to ensure that the tragic event does not happen again.
While urging the police to ensure that justice is served in the case, Sanwo-Olu stated that the Lagos State Government will work with the Force leadership, particularly in his state, to provide body cameras to officers on patrol.
He was accompanied by Moyosore Onigbanjo, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, and Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
