2023: Makinde Told To Support Atiku If He Wants Second Term
Elder Wole Oyelese, a former Minister of Power and Steel, has stated that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state’s second-term ambition is dependent on Atiku Abubakar’s victory.
Atiku is the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 25th February presidential election.
On Thursday, Oyelese made this statement to journalists in Ibadan, the state capital.

Makinde, one of the PDP’s newly formed G-5 governors, has refused to campaign for Atiku Abubakar.
He and other G-5 members have previously stated that they will not support Atiku unless the party’s national chairman, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, resigns.
However, Oyelese, a PDP chieftain in the state, has advised Makinde to reverse his decision.
The former minister stated that Makinde’s decision must be reversed in order for him to run for a second term.
Oyelese told journalists that Makinde needs Atiku to win the second term election, and that more than 95 percent of political appointees in Makinde’s administration work for Atiku.
Makinde, according to the former minister, lacks the ability to reverse the popular sentiment in Oyo State that supports Atiku, and a current situation is an act of treachery.

He went on to say that it is unacceptable that Makinde, who is running for re-election on the PDP platform, is working against the party’s presidential candidate.
Oyelese advised Makinde to reverse his decision and support Atiku immediately.
He said, “I see the current situation as an act of treachery when you belong to a political party and you are working against the presidential candidate of that party. It is Seyi that needs Atiku and not Atiku that needs him, because Oyo State people have made up their minds to support Atiku.
“The bottom line is that Makinde should campaign openly for Atiku or else, it will be taken that he has made a statement in line with what the G-5 governors have been saying and this is dangerous for his second term ambition. Makinde should know That Wike has lost it”.
