Isiaka, who chairs the Student Loans, Scholarships, and Higher Education Financing Committee, stated that Nigeria would require $4.9 billion annually to meet the SDG goal of zero hunger by 2030.

He made these remarks at the 26th annual global lecture of the Alumni of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, focusing on the theme “Trajectory of Building an Agro-prosperous and Zero Hunger Nation.”

Isiaka emphasized that without addressing the growing insecurity, particularly in the Northeast and Middle Belt, the country faces a challenge in ensuring food security. This has led to the abandonment of 800,000 hectares of farmland due to violence and clashes between farmers and herders.

He further explained that insecurity disrupts agricultural production and supply chains, exacerbating food shortages. Additionally, climate change poses a significant risk by altering rainfall patterns, increasing temperatures, and reducing arable land.

To address these challenges, Isiaka called for the establishment of designated ranches for livestock rearing and emphasized the need for transparent land allocation alongside a strengthened legal and judicial system for conflict resolution.

He stressed the importance of strategic funding, technological adoption, and continuous training for farmers to enhance agricultural productivity, underlining the necessity of $4.9 billion annually for achieving the SDG 2.
