The incident occurred mid-flight, prompting the crew to alert officials on the ground, resulting in the aircraft being met by emergency services upon landing in Frankfurt at around 5:33 pm.
According to a spokesperson for the German airline, 70 of the 290 passengers onboard suddenly experienced symptoms including nausea and vomiting. However, the crew remained unaffected by the illness.
The airline confirmed that the pilot was trained to handle such situations and made the decision to continue the flight after assessing the situation. Medical professionals were available upon arrival in Frankfurt to assist the affected passengers.
While the cause of the illness was not confirmed, the airline stated that an investigation was initiated to determine the underlying cause and take appropriate measures. It was noted that the food onboard was prepared in Mauritius, but the airline refrained from speculating on the specific cause pending further investigation.
