A Decisive Victory: Nigerian Forces Eliminate 10,937 Terrorists In 2024

The Nigerian military has made significant strides in its fight against terrorism, with a report revealing that 10,937 terrorists were killed in 2024. This was announced by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Buba highlighted that alongside the casualties, 12,538 terrorists were captured, and 7,063 hostages were successfully rescued from various terrorist strongholds across the country throughout the year.

In addition to these accomplishments, a total of 16,171 terrorists and their families voluntarily surrendered to Nigerian forces during various operations. The military also made major strides in cutting off terrorist access to resources, recovering 8,815 weapons and 228,004 rounds of ammunition, while also preventing the theft of oil products valued at an estimated N68.4 billion.

The military’s efforts extended to dismantling terrorist infrastructure, with the destruction of 2,019 wooden boats and 2,612 illegal refining sites. Troops also recovered 538 assorted weapons and 13,198 rounds of ammunition, demonstrating a robust and proactive approach to securing the nation.

Buba emphasized the importance of collaboration with neighboring countries and regional security forces in combating terrorism. He called for greater public support in the ongoing fight, stressing that defeating terrorism is not just the military’s responsibility, but a national effort.

“We must work together as a nation to win this war,” Buba urged, reinforcing the call for continued citizen involvement.
