Africa’s Brightest Young Stars Shine As Future Awards Unveils 2025 Nominees
According to Ireporter Online, The Future Awards Africa has unveiled the nominees for its 19th edition, themed “Threads of Legacy,” celebrating young Africans whose work continues to redefine the continent’s social, creative, and economic landscape.
The prestigious platform, widely regarded as the most influential youth awards on the continent, spotlights changemakers who are driving transformation across various fields — from arts and technology to entrepreneurship, advocacy, innovation, and leadership.
In a significant expansion, this year’s edition features 25 categories — the most in its history — reflecting the growing diversity of African excellence. The Arts and Literature category has been separated into two distinct recognitions, while Performing Arts has been introduced to celebrate stage excellence. Additionally, a new honorary category, Service to Young People, has been added to acknowledge individuals dedicated to championing youth empowerment and causes.
Speaking on the importance of the awards, Executive Director Ayodeji Razaq stated that the achievements of the nominees reflect the ongoing evolution of Africa’s narrative. “The story of Africa’s future is written today, thread by thread, through the work of these nominees,” Razaq said. “They are artists, entrepreneurs, advocates, and innovators whose accomplishments inspire generations and lay the foundation for lasting legacies. This is what The Future Awards Africa seeks to celebrate — to spotlight these stories, preserve them as part of Africa’s collective memory, and honour those shaping the continent’s tomorrow.”
Among the distinguished nominees are Rasheedat Ajibade, Fola David, Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo (Asherkine), Victor Ugo, Poco Lee, Gbubemi Ejeye, Tomike Adeoye, Kelvin Umechukwu, Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu, and Dongio Casil (Djec Fashion) from Cameroon — all representing the dynamism and innovation of Africa’s youth.
Other notable names include Chiamaka Iwenofu, Umearigolu Casmir Chukwuebuka (Ianumeh), Taiwo Joel, Daniel Obasi (AMAH Studios), and Julie Godwin in the Creativity and Innovation category; while in Photography, nominees include Ayo Makinwa, Amazing Klef, Emeka Amafor, Thompson Ekong, and Chika Onuu.
Additional categories include Education, Journalism, Content Creation, Health and Wellness, Community Action, Arts, Literature, Activism and Advocacy, Fashion, Law, Film, Professional Service, Entrepreneurship, Technology, Intrapreneurship, On-Air Personality, Agriculture, Governance, Music, Sport, Acting, and Young Person of the Year.
The judging process, according to the organisers, will maintain the highest standards of transparency and integrity, ensuring that each winner embodies the excellence and impact The Future Awards Africa is known for. The event aims to celebrate innovation, courage, and legacy — a testament to the fact that the future of Africa is already being shaped by its young trailblazers.
