Air Chief Pledges Intensified Crackdown On Bandits Following Ambush In Niger State

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has affirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating banditry and insurgency in Niger State and other affected regions.

This resolution follows a recent ambush on troops by bandits in Niger State, resulting in fatalities.

The incident also led to the loss of an Air Force aircraft during a rescue operation.

Abubakar emphasized that the collaborative efforts of the Air Force and land forces would be fortified to address the security challenges effectively. He underscored the military’s determination to utilize their combat capabilities to eliminate criminal elements.

The Air Chief made these remarks during a condolence visit by Niger State Governor Umar Bago in Abuja on Tuesday. Abubakar stated, “Our approach now is to intensify our activities in tandem with the land forces to completely eradicate these criminal elements with our combat capabilities.”

Acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by the Air Force, Abubakar attributed the recent aircraft incidents to the increased air operations. He stressed that the aim is to work toward minimizing incidents and accidents in operational environments.

Abubakar highlighted the impact of weather conditions on the Air Force’s operations, citing cloud cover and the harmattan season as challenges that can hamper visibility and strike capabilities.

The governor urged Abubakar to deploy additional troops and fighter jets to Niger State to enhance security and safeguard lives and property.

He specifically requested assistance in Minna, highlighting the strategic importance of the Minna airport’s extensive runways.
