Akin Olaiya’s Estranged Wife Raises Allegation Of Domestic Violence
According to Ireporter Online, Nafisat, the estranged wife of popular Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya, has accused him of domestic violence and emotional mistreatment following the public announcement of the collapse of their marriage.
The actor had earlier revealed that his marriage to Nafisat had ended, alleging that she left their matrimonial home without his knowledge and that efforts to reconcile the union had been unsuccessful.
However, reacting in a viral video on Wednesday, Nafisat confirmed that the marriage had indeed broken down but disputed the actor’s version of events, insisting she left due to alleged domestic violence and emotional distress.
She claimed she exited the marriage a few months after their wedding, saying she could no longer endure what she described as mistreatment. According to her, “Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence.”
Nafisat further stated that the couple had been separated for a long time, contrary to public perception that the breakup was recent. She also questioned claims that she left without justification, insisting that unresolved issues within the marriage made her decision necessary.
Addressing criticisms on social media, she said, “For those of you saying how can the wife just pack and leave when she’s not mad? When there’s violence and something is really going on that you don’t really know about.”
She added that the significant age gap between them contributed to the challenges in the relationship, while noting that she would not disclose all details of their private issues publicly.
“The age gap is much. Yet everything was going down, and I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage with him,” she said.
Nafisat maintained that it was misleading to suggest she left without cause, urging the public to reconsider the narrative surrounding the separation.
Meanwhile, Akin Olaiya had earlier maintained that the marriage collapsed after repeated attempts at reconciliation failed, alleging that his wife left and refused to return despite interventions from family members.
