Bashir El-Rufai Issues Public Apology To VP Shettima Over “Spineless” Remark
Bashir el-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, has publicly apologized to Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, after drawing widespread criticism for a controversial social media post earlier this month.
According to Ireporter Online, Bashir acknowledged in a post on that his earlier comment about the Vice President was inappropriate and regrettable. He described his remark as reckless and expressed remorse for referring to Shettima in a disrespectful manner.
In his apology, Bashir emphasized his admiration and respect for the Vice President, stating: “I want to use this medium to personally apologize to the Vice-President of Nigeria, His Excellency Sir Kashim Shettima for my old post referring to his person as spineless. He is someone I greatly admire & respect.”
The apology follows a post made on March 6, 2026, which has since been deleted, in which Bashir criticized Shettima, alleging that he lacked the courage to confront corruption within the Presidential Villa. At the time, Bashir urged the Vice President to take decisive action against what he described as entrenched corruption.
