Writing by Sediq Mutari

On June 28, 2024, two individuals tragically lost their lives in Bauchi State in separate incidents confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command.

According to Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incidents unfolded following a distress call from Gwallameji. A group of hunters, led by 49-year-old Saidu Musa and armed with machetes and guns, were mistaken for armed robbers by residents. This misunderstanding led to a forceful response from the residents, resulting in severe injuries to one of the hunters, 27-year-old Nasiru Adam from Tani-Yola. Despite immediate medical attention at ATBUTH, Adam succumbed to his injuries.

Additionally, three motorcycles belonging to the hunters were set ablaze during the incident.

Wakil also reported a separate incident involving a reprisal attack by a group known as ‘Yan Tokara’ on June 2. The attack resulted in the death of 21-year-old Rabiu Shehu, also known as Rambo, from Muda Lawal, Bauchi. Shehu was fatally stabbed in the stomach and neck in the Bakin Kura area by an unknown assailant believed to be affiliated with the rival group.

In response to these incidents, Wakil assured the public of a heightened police presence across Bauchi State, with efforts focused on apprehending those responsible for the violence.
