The duo faced charges of theft, accused of conspiring to siphon off the substantial sum from the unsuspecting bettor who frequented their outlet in Lagos’ Iddo area.
Appearing before Magistrate F.F. George, the defendants protested their innocence against the two counts of theft leveled against them, setting the stage for a high-stakes legal battle. According to police prosecutor James Okosun, the alleged offense transpired between September 12 and 24, 2023, shaking the foundations of trust in the bustling Lagos Island community.
Issa, the aggrieved party, recounted his ordeal, revealing how his triumphant bet quickly turned into a nightmare as he struggled to claim his rightful winnings from Adetola, the Bet Naija attendant. Despite winning big on 36 games, Issa found himself entangled in a web of deceit, with Adetola allegedly stalling payments and conspiring with cohorts to abscond with his hard-earned cash.
The charges against Adetola and Dada underscored the gravity of their alleged actions, highlighting the severe penalties awaiting those found guilty of such crimes under Lagos State law. Yet, maintaining their innocence, the defendants pleaded not guilty, setting the stage for a contentious legal showdown.
As the case unfolds, the eyes of the public remain fixated on the courtroom drama, eager to witness justice prevail in the face of betrayal and deceit. With bail granted and a date set for further proceedings, the fate of Adetola, Dada, and the stolen millions hangs in the balance, awaiting the final verdict of the courts.
