Big Revelation As Oshiomhole ‘Speaks On’ Deputy Governor Shaibu’s Defection To APC

Speculation regarding the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu, defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to have been unfounded, as the former governor of the state and senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, indirectly addressed the rumors by stating that the APC was not a refuge for troubled politicians.

Oshiomhole made these comments while talking to journalists after offering his condolences to the family of the late Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri. Oshiomhole referred to the late Edebiri as his mentor.

He expressed his desire for peace in the state, regardless of the political party in power, and highlighted the importance of loyalty in politics.

Oshiomhole remarked, “Despite party divisions, I wish for Edo to be governed peacefully because the overarching entity we all belong to is the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the political parties, even with their shifts and realignments, demonstrate that the constant factor is Nigeria, not the political parties.”

Addressing the rumors of someone intending to join APC, Oshiomhole asserted, “Let me state that APC is not a place for rehabilitation. I can assure you of that. We, in APC, are content with our current status; we are content in opposition, and we are not prepared to accept individuals who are seeking refuge due to their political misfortunes. There are no Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps within the APC.”

He advised those facing challenges to learn how to show respect to their superiors. Oshiomhole shared his own experience, explaining that although he couldn’t support his deputy to succeed him as governor, his deputy never resorted to legal action against him.

Oshiomhole emphasized the value of loyalty in relationships and politics. He mentioned, “Despite the opinions of others, I belong to only one of the clans in my local government. While it would be ideal if only my clan produced the governors, I recognize that Nigeria doesn’t operate in such a manner. Sentiments exist that suggest at this level of our development, opportunities should be distributed evenly.”
