The attack on Bazir village occurred at approximately 2:00 am, while many of the villagers were still asleep. The terrorists, who were reportedly armed and heavily coordinated, launched a surprise assault on the peaceful village, attacking homes, looting agricultural produce, and setting fire to structures. Among the buildings targeted by the attackers was a church, which was razed to the ground alongside other residential houses. The attackers also destroyed food crops and livestock, leaving the villagers not only in shock but also facing a severe humanitarian crisis due to the loss of their homes and livelihoods.

Residents of Bazir who managed to escape described the attack as terrifying. One of the survivors, Mr. James Ayuba, recounted the ordeal, emphasizing how he and others narrowly escaped death. “It was by God’s grace that we escaped unhurt, but our house was completely set ablaze after the terrorists looted our agricultural produce,” Ayuba shared. He urged the Nigerian government and security agencies to take urgent action to address the growing threats facing the people of Southern Borno, especially in Chibok, which has been a target for repeated Boko Haram assaults in recent years.

This attack is part of a disturbing trend of renewed violence in the region. Just a week prior, on January 2, 2025, a similar attack was reported in Njilang village, also in the Chibok Local Government Area. The attack displaced the entire community, with residents fleeing to safer locations to escape the threat posed by Boko Haram militants. In that incident, the attackers not only killed civilians but also caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving the villagers with little to return to.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, which includes Chibok, has spoken out about the escalating violence in the region. Ndume condemned the renewed attacks and expressed concern over the safety of residents, particularly in communities such as Damboa and other areas of southern Borno. He called for increased military presence and for more decisive action to protect the local population from the terrorists who have plagued the region for years.

The situation in Chibok is particularly concerning, as it remains one of the areas most affected by Boko Haram insurgency in recent years. The attacks have left the local population traumatized, with many living in constant fear of further violence.
