Breaking: APC Extends Ekiti & Osun Caretaker Committees’ Tenure By 6 Months

According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved a six-month extension for its caretaker committee executives in Ekiti and Osun states. The decision was taken on Friday, March 27, during the party’s 8th National Convention and subsequently ratified by delegates, the highest decision-making body of the party.

Senator Barau Jibrin, representing Kano North, noted that the tenure of the affected committees at ward, local government, and state levels was originally due to expire at the end of March 2026. He explained that ongoing political developments made it impractical to hold fresh congresses at this time. According to Jibrin, the extension will ensure administrative stability and facilitate the party’s coordination in preparation for upcoming congresses and electoral activities.

The motion was seconded by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and received unanimous approval from delegates. In a related move, the convention dissolved the party’s National Working Committee to make way for new national officers. The decision, based on Article 13.1 of the party’s constitution, was moved by APC National Legal Adviser Abdulkarim Kana and seconded by Deputy National Secretary Abdulkarim Oluopolekana.

The convention also adopted a consensus-based approach for electing new national officers, a motion moved by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. Additionally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented a motion ratifying ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses held across the country, citing substantial compliance with the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines. This motion was seconded by Imo State Governor and Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma.

During the convention, APC elected a new set of national executives at Eagle Square, Abuja. Professor Nentawe Yilwatda emerged as National Chairman, assisted by two Deputy National Chairmen, Ali Bukar Dalori (North) and Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye (South). Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru was elected National Secretary, with Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana as Deputy National Secretary. Other key positions filled include Murtala Aliyu Kankia (National Legal Adviser), Uguru Mathew Ofoke (National Treasurer), Ambassador Haruna Ginsau (National Financial Secretary), Muhammad Sulaiman Argungu (National Organising Secretary), and Donatus Enyinnah Nwankpa (National Welfare Secretary).

Felix Morka retained his position as National Publicity Secretary, while Senator Abubakar Maikafi became National Auditor. Dr. Mary A. Idele was elected National Women Leader, Dayo Isreal as National Youth Leader, and Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole as National Leader for Persons with Disabilities. Several deputy national officers were also appointed during the convention, marking a significant reshuffle of the party’s leadership structure.
