BREAKING: Fernandes Crowned Premier League Player Of The Season

According to football reports, the Portuguese midfielder received the prestigious honour on Saturday after delivering one of the finest individual performances in the league this season under manager Michael Carrick.

Fernandes equalled the Premier League record for the highest number of assists in a single season after recording 20 assists, matching the achievements of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. The 31-year-old also scored eight league goals during the campaign.

The midfielder became the first Manchester United player since Nemanja Matic to win the award, ending a long wait for the club in the category.

Fernandes emerged ahead of several top contenders including David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The recognition adds to Fernandes’ successful season after he was earlier named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.

Meanwhile, Nico O’Reilly of Manchester City was named the Premier League Young Player of the Season after an impressive breakthrough campaign. The 21-year-old impressed in multiple roles, featuring regularly at left-back and in midfield while contributing five goals and three assists.

O’Reilly also played a decisive role in Manchester City’s domestic cup triumphs, scoring twice in the League Cup final victory over Arsenal and starting in the FA Cup final win against Chelsea.

Other players nominated for the Young Player award included Rayan Cherki, Mateus Fernandes, Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode, Kobbie Mainoo, Alex Scott and Eli Junior Kroupi.
