BREAKING: What Appeal Court Did To Election Of Orji Kalu As Abia Senator
The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, confirmed on Monday that Orji Kalu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), rightfully won the Abia North senatorial election.

A three-member panel, presided over by Abiri JCA, determined that Mr. Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, adhered to the constitutional provisions of the electoral act throughout the campaign period.

The court supported the tribunal’s decision and dismissed the appeals brought by Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nnamdi Orji of the Labour Party (LP) on the grounds of lacking merit.
It was ruled that the allegations against Mr. Kalu were not substantiated.
The court also rejected the plea to disqualify Mr. Kalu from the election for his admission before a Federal High Court of being convicted of fraud.
The court determined that Mr. Kalu was eligible to run in the senatorial election since his trial and conviction on fraud charges were nullified by the Supreme Court.
Mr. Kalu currently serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation.
Former senator Elisha Abbo, who represented Adamawa North, had earlier claimed that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was conspiring to influence court decisions against five senators who opposed his bid for the senate presidency.
Mr. Abbo, a member of the APC, was removed from office by an appeal court in Abuja in October. He identified Mr. Kalu as one of the five senators who would be unseated by the appeal court.
Since Mr. Abbo’s statement, a total of four senators have been removed from office by the appeal court.
In addition to Mr. Abbo, those who have been removed are Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere (Kogi Central), Simon Mwadkwon (Plateau North), Darlington Nwokocha (Abia Central), and Gabriel Suswan (Benue North-east).
