Content Creator Sunshine Passes Away Following Surgery Complications

Popular content creator Esther Thomas, widely known as Sunshine, has passed away following complications from fibroid surgery, her family confirmed. According to reports, she died on January 9, 2026, after undergoing an operation intended to remove a large fibroid.

In a statement shared on her Instagram page, the family expressed their grief, saying, “We, the family of Esther Thomas (A.K.A Sunshine), with pain in our hearts, regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved sister and daughter … who passed away on January 9, 2026, after an unsuccessful surgery.”

Sunshine had been experiencing severe stomach pain since late December 2025 and initially received treatment at Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, where she was provided with pain relief due to an ongoing doctors’ strike. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to another hospital on January 2 for further evaluation. Medical examinations revealed a large fibroid, prompting doctors to recommend surgical removal.

Although the operation was initially reported as successful, she later developed complications that proved fatal. A fellow content creator confirmed, “According to the doctor, the surgery was successful, but she later developed complications that led to her death.”

Sunshine gained recognition for her comedic skits, modelling projects, brand collaborations, and online video appearances. Her family is currently making arrangements for her burial and has appealed to friends and supporters to respect their privacy during this difficult period.
