Cost Of Refilling Cooking Gas Per Kilogram In Nigeria
In a welcome development for Nigerian households, the retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has fallen from an average of ₦1,080 per kilogram last week to ₦1,000 per kilogram this week. According to Ireporter Online, this reduction is expected to ease financial pressure on millions of consumers amid growing concerns about rising living costs.
The new pricing translates to ₦1,000 for a 1kg cylinder, ₦3,000 for 3kg, ₦5,000 for 5kg, ₦10,000 for 10kg, ₦12,000 for 12kg, and ₦12,500 for the 12.5kg cylinder.
Industry experts attribute the price decline to several factors, including improvements in domestic LPG distribution, which have reduced transportation bottlenecks and enhanced delivery efficiency nationwide. Increased local gas production by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has also helped reduce dependence on imports and overall costs.
Additionally, a relatively stable naira exchange rate in recent weeks has made imported LPG more affordable, while recent suspension of certain levies and import duties on gas-related equipment has further lowered costs for distributors. Heightened competition among private gas retailers has also pressured prices downward, providing more affordable options for consumers.
