Court Clears Path For Tinubu’s Minister Onyejeocha’s Prosecution Over Alleged Election Forgery
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted permission for the prosecution of the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, over allegations of forging election results during the 2023 general elections.
According to Ireporter Online, the order was issued by Justice M.G. Umar following an ex parte motion filed by Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, who represents the Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. The court, in a ruling delivered on September 23, 2025, held that Ogah presented substantial evidence to warrant judicial intervention.
Justice Umar stated that the application had merit and that the court must act “judicially and judiciously” in exercising its discretion. He therefore granted leave to Ogah to apply for an Order of Mandamus compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and prosecute Onyejeocha over the alleged forgery.
Ogah alleged that Onyejeocha, who contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC), falsified polling unit results used during the 2023 election petition proceedings, where she had challenged his victory under the Labour Party (LP). He claimed that the minister presented forged documents, identified as Exhibit 3, before both the Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal to substantiate her claims of victory.
In his affidavit, Ogah accused Onyejeocha of attempting to mislead the judiciary by submitting falsified election materials, insisting that the authenticity of the said exhibits was vehemently disputed during the tribunal hearing.
Reacting earlier through her media aide, Onyejeocha had dismissed the allegations as baseless and already resolved, describing them as politically motivated attempts to tarnish her reputation.
However, Justice Umar, after reviewing the evidence and arguments presented, ruled in favour of Ogah. The court consequently approved the lawmaker’s request to compel INEC to initiate criminal proceedings against Onyejeocha for allegedly forging election documents in the Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State.
