Crisis Rocks Nasarawa APC As Gayam Ward Suspends State Chairman, Aliyu Bello

Fresh turmoil has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State following the suspension of the party’s State Chairman, Aliyu Bello, by his Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area over alleged anti-party activities.

Naija News reports that the suspension was announced on Tuesday, just hours after APC leaders across the state had passed a vote of confidence in Bello at an emergency meeting in Lafia.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman of the APC in Gayam Ward, Ibrahim Ilyasu, disclosed that the decision was unanimously taken by ward executives after consultations with stakeholders, citing violations of the party’s constitution.

“In line with the powers vested in us under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC Constitution, and after extensive consultations, we have resolved to suspend you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, from the All Progressives Congress with immediate effect,” Ilyasu declared.

The ward leadership accused Bello of openly campaigning for a candidate from another political party, describing his actions as a betrayal that brought ridicule to the APC.

“We have credible evidence and reports that you promoted and campaigned for an aspirant from another party,” Ilyasu said, referencing Article 21 (0) (ii) and (vii) which prohibits members from acts that could bring the party into hatred, contempt, or disrepute.

The executives warned Bello to stop presenting himself as an APC member or official in Gayam Ward until the issue is resolved.

“Your actions have embarrassed the party and undermined our collective credibility. We urge you to desist from parading yourself as a member or officer of the APC pending the outcome of this process,” the ward chairman warned.

Meanwhile, reacting earlier in the week, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Otaru Douglas, alleged that a governorship aspirant was behind coordinated moves to oust Bello through orchestrated suspensions.
