2027: El-Rufai Confirms Opposition Coalition Adopts ADC, Appoints Aregbesola As Interim Secretary

The National Opposition Coalition Group has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a major move to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As part of the coalition’s new structure, former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has been appointed as the interim national secretary of the ADC.

This development was confirmed on Tuesday night by the immediate past Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who shared Aregbesola’s acceptance speech on his verified X handle.

A Party Rooted In Ideals — Aregbesola

In his remarks, Aregbesola promised to build a political party with a firm ideological foundation, emphasizing values that go beyond mere electoral pursuits.

“As the National Secretary, I will work to build a party that has a clear ideological compass — a party absolutely committed to the people, rooted in democratic values, rule of law, social justice, accountability, transparency, and national development,” Aregbesola said.

He stressed that the mission would not be an overnight achievement.

“This is not an easy task. It will take time. It will demand sacrifice. But it can be done.”

Broader Push To Unseat APC

The coalition’s decision to adopt the ADC comes amid a wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures seek to consolidate forces to break the dominance of President Bola Tinubu’s APC.

Political analysts note that by rallying around a single party, the coalition aims to avoid the pitfalls of fragmented opposition efforts that have previously worked to the advantage of the ruling party.
