of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa in Silame Local Government Area, known to harbor the Lakurawa sect and other criminals.
Eyewitnesses reported that the airstrike, which took place around 7 am, disrupted what should have been a peaceful holiday, causing widespread panic and destruction. Local leaders, including Silame’s Chairman, Abubakar Daftarana, expressed their shock over the tragic loss of innocent lives. “These villagers were peaceful people with no criminal record,” he stated.
The NAF, which conducted the operation based on credible intelligence, expressed deep concern over the civilian casualties. Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa confirmed that the incident would be thoroughly investigated to ascertain the full extent of the damage and hold accountable those responsible for any harm to civilians.
Meanwhile, military officials from Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed that the targets were believed to be affiliated with the Lakurawa group, emphasizing the rigorous intelligence and reconnaissance processes involved in military operations. Despite the tragic misfire, they urged the public to be cautious of misinformation and media disinformation.
In another development, terrorists launched a drone strike on a military base in Borno State, injuring five soldiers and damaging equipment. The attack, which took place in the Wajiroko area of Damboa, saw insurgents using armed drones to target the base.
As the military continues to grapple with these challenges, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, urged citizens to refrain from engaging in any trade with terrorists, emphasizing that such actions are undermining national security efforts.
This tragic sequence of events highlights the unpredictable and dangerous nature of the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.
