According to Ireporter Online, former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in a major political realignment that has drawn wide reactions across the political space.

The duo reportedly registered as members of the NDC at the party’s national headquarters on Sunday evening, where they were received by the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson. Welcoming the new entrants, Dickson remarked that the party “doesn’t know what is called status quo ante bellum,” signaling a new political direction and approach within the NDC.

Reacting to the development, ADC chieftain in Katsina State, Mustapha Muhammed Inuwa, described Peter Obi’s exit as unfortunate, alleging that the former Anambra State governor allowed personal ambition to influence his political decisions. While acknowledging that it is within Obi’s democratic right to choose his political path, Inuwa said the development was a setback for the party.

He further stated that Obi’s departure would not weaken the ADC, insisting that supporters now better understand his political disposition. According to him, “Obi’s exit will not deter us and will not negatively affect us because people have now understood his true colour. I am truly disappointed in Obi, and a lot of people are. This will affect his political career negatively.”
