DETAILS AND PHOTOS Emerge As Sanusi Is Spotted Outside Nigeria

Former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Tony Elumelu, Group Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Dr. Toyin Saraki, the wife of the former Senate President, along with other distinguished personalities have arrived for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The UNGA’s theme is: “Rebuilding trust and Reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”

Notable Nigerians present include music artiste Yemi Alade, DJ Florence Otedola (popularly known as DJ Cuppy), celebrated poet and writer Ms. Karimot Odebode, and Damilola Ogunbiyi, Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General for Sustainable Energy For All (SEforALL).

Sanusi participated in a film screening titled “The Agreement: The Making of the SDGs” and engaged in a panel discussion with UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed.

Yemi Alade performed at the opening of the SDG Action weekend as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNDP.

Elumelu had a meeting with Liberia’s President George Weah, while Dr. Toyin actively participated in the SDG Action Weekend.

UNGA 78 officially commenced on Tuesday, 5 September, with the high-level debate commencing on Tuesday, 19 September.

This 78th session also marks the midway point toward the deadline set for achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the SDG Summit on 18 and 19 September, leaders will assess the progress made in implementing the 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs.

The General Assembly’s high-level debate will run from Tuesday, 19 September to Saturday, 23 September, and resume for one day on Tuesday, 26 September.

The city’s Department of Transportation issued a gridlock alert with extensive street closures from Monday through Friday.
