The exchange rate between the United States dollar and the Nigerian naira at the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, recorded notable activity on March 18, 2026. According to financial market updates, the dollar was traded at a selling rate of ₦1,430 and a buying rate of ₦1,412 among Bureau De Change operators in Lagos.

Reports indicate that these figures reflect ongoing fluctuations in the informal foreign exchange market, where rates are largely driven by demand and supply dynamics. Market observers note that actual transaction values may vary slightly from the quoted rates depending on location and volume of trade.

In contrast, data from the official window shows that the Central Bank of Nigeria maintained a lower range for the naira against the dollar, with the highest rate recorded at ₦1,362 and the lowest at ₦1,349 for the same period.

However, the apex bank has consistently reiterated that it does not recognise the parallel market, advising individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to conduct transactions through authorised financial institutions.
