Edo 2024: Deputy Governor Shaibu Absent From INEC List As Ighodalo, Akpata, Okpebholo, And Others Emerge As Contenders
The absence of Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, from the list of candidates for the forthcoming September 21 governorship election has raised eyebrows, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)…..READ ALSO FULL VIDEO: How Deputy Governor Shaibu Was Denied Access To His Old Office At Government House (WATCH)
The list, unveiled at the INEC state office in Benin City and across all 18 local government area offices, features candidates from 17 political parties, excluding Shaibu.
Notable figures among the contenders include Ighodalo Asuerinme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okpebholo Monday of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
Other contenders listed are Osirame Edeipo representing the Boot Party (BP), Enabulele Bright from the Accord party (AP), Obazele Paul Agbone of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Key Ndidi representing the People Redemption Party (PRP), and Okungbowa Paul Ovbokhan from the Young Progressive Party (YPP).
Additionally, the gubernatorial candidate lineup includes Uwaifo Osaro of the Action Alliance (AA), Aner Abdullai Aliu representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Azena Azemhe Friday from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Osifo Isiah of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Completing the roster are Ugiagbe Odaro Syvelster (All People Movement – APM), Areleogbe Amos Osalumese (All Peoples Party – APP), Akhime kingson Afere (Action Democratic Party – ADP), Udoh Obersifo David (African Action Congress – AAC), and Akhalamhe Amiemenoghena (Zenith Labour Party – ZLP).
Timidi Wariowei, the head of voters education and publicity at the state INEC office, emphasized that the public display of candidate particulars aligns with electoral laws, providing transparency for parties and the public to scrutinize the candidates and their running mates.
