In a statement made on Friday to commemorate the International Day of Education, Obi emphasized that education is vital for developing a skilled workforce, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable development. The theme for the 2025 International Day of Education was ‘AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.’

“Today is a notable occasion in our nation’s history as we join the global community in celebrating the International Day of Education. It is especially meaningful to me because I firmly believe in education’s transformative power to drive development and innovation,” he remarked.

Obi highlighted that nations like India, China, Morocco, and Egypt have demonstrated the strong link between education and national growth, greatly enhancing their global standing through strategic educational investments.

He lamented the challenges facing Nigeria’s education system, including inadequate funding, a lack of qualified teachers, outdated curricula, corruption, and insecurity—all of which require urgent attention.

“The government must take decisive action to tackle these issues and ensure that every Nigerian child receives at least a basic education. By prioritizing education, we can cultivate a productive population that propels our nation forward,” he stated.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with significant obstacles in its education sector, Obi called for renewed efforts to ensure that quality education is accessible to all children.
