According to Ireporter Online, Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has indicated plans to broaden Nigeria’s player selection ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup, with NPFL standouts and uncapped diaspora talents set to be given opportunities during the tournament scheduled for May in London. The competition will take place at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, from May 26 to 30, where Nigeria will aim to defend the title they won in the previous edition against India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe.

Chelle explained that the Unity Cup presents a valuable chance to assess new players outside the FIFA international window, while also integrating emerging talents from Europe and the domestic league. He noted that he will monitor NPFL matches closely while also inviting eligible players of Nigerian descent abroad, including those previously called up but yet to feature for the national team.
