he had taken the team as far as he could. This followed another relegation battle, despite successfully keeping the club in the Premier League over the previous two seasons. His departure was announced just hours before Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough, which they won 2-0 with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman temporarily in charge.

Moyes, who spent 11 years at Everton, managing over 500 games at Goodison Park before leaving in 2013 to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, will now return to Merseyside. He takes over a team that is just one point above the relegation zone.

During his first tenure at Everton, Moyes led the club to a fourth-place finish in 2004-05, securing a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds, and reached the FA Cup final in 2009. The 61-year-old, who parted ways with West Ham at the end of last season, is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Everton.

Moyes’ time at West Ham saw him win the UEFA Conference League, though his style of play often came under scrutiny, a criticism also directed at Dyche. Despite this, the Friedkin Group views Moyes as a steady hand to guide the club through a turbulent period.

Under Dyche, Everton struggled with failed takeover attempts as Farhad Moshiri, the club’s majority shareholder, faced difficulty selling his stake. Additionally, Everton suffered an eight-point deduction last season for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Everton fans will hope Moyes can bring a fresh start for the club, especially as the team prepares to move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next season. His return also marks the final months of Everton’s time at Goodison Park.
