that he allegedly used to mislead the public.
In a statement released on Friday, the police accused Ekhorutomuen of inciting public distrust towards the police force with his online posts.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken decisive measures to combat the spread of misinformation and disinformation that could deepen the rift between the police and the public, who are essential to maintaining national peace and security,” Adejobi stated.
On December 8, 2024, police operatives arrested the 38-year-old suspect in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. They allege that he created and managed various social media profiles to share false and provocative content aimed at inciting public anger against the Nigeria Police.
The spokesperson emphasized the Police Force’s zero-tolerance policy for actions that jeopardize national stability or tarnish the image of law enforcement agencies and government institutions.
Adejobi reminded the public that instigating distrust against the police is a criminal offense. He stated, “The deliberate spread of falsehood undermines public trust, damages social cohesion, and poses significant threats to national security.”
In light of this, the Nigeria Police Force strongly cautions against the misuse of social media and other platforms for promoting fake news or inciting unrest. Such actions are considered criminal and are punishable by law. Citizens are urged to be cautious and responsible in their information sharing, as the overall peace and unity of the nation depend on it.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order within the community.
