In response, INEC released a statement, urging the public to disregard the rumor. “Prof. Yakubu is alive, well, and in good health. He has not traveled to London in the past two years,” read the statement signed by Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman.

The statement also highlighted Yakubu’s recent engagements, including an interactive meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters on December 11, and his leadership role in a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners on December 12.
