Dr. Oduwole made this commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Germany in Abuja. The visit aimed to strengthen Nigeria-Germany economic relations and explore opportunities for investments, job creation, vocational training, skilled migration, and business development.
Highlighting the alignment between German initiatives and the Ministry’s priorities, Oduwole emphasized the need to enhance specialized services. She revealed that the federal government is repositioning the National Talent Export Programme (NTEP), initiated by President Bola Tinubu in 2023, to focus on vocational training, managed skills, and migration opportunities for Nigerian youths.
Expressing Nigeria’s readiness to participate in the upcoming “World Meets in Giessen” conference in Germany, Oduwole reaffirmed the ministry’s openness to any opportunity that could boost the competitiveness of Nigerian youths.
The German delegation, led by Matthias Leder, President of the Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the mutual benefits of continued cooperation between the two nations, particularly in skilled labor migration and investment. Leder invited Nigeria to the B2B-focused World Meets in Giessen conference, stressing its potential to connect businesses worldwide with Nigerian opportunities.
Leder also highlighted the success of the dual vocational training system implemented in Nigeria, stating, “We have already introduced this in Abuja, Abeokuta, and Lagos, with over 95% of apprentices receiving job offers. We believe this model is key to Nigeria’s growth.”
The Nigeria-Germany partnership aims to foster a skilled workforce, improve labor mobility, and attract international investments. The collaboration is expected to stimulate Nigeria’s economy, create jobs for its youthful population, and open new avenues for international businesses eager to engage with the Nigerian market.
Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who also attended the meeting, stressed the importance of this partnership. He praised Oduwole’s commitment to advancing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, noting that the collaboration aligns with the government’s focus on economic growth, trade expansion, and investment.
Mohammed emphasized, “Germany’s growing demand for skilled labor presents a significant opportunity for Nigeria’s talented youth. By fostering structured migration channels, we can meet Germany’s labor needs while providing Nigerian youths with opportunities to develop their skills and contribute to global economic growth.”
