Former Communications Minister Adebayo Shittu Denies Lobbying For Pro-Chancellor Appointment

Adebayo Shittu, former Minister of Communications under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed allegations that he lobbied for his recent appointment as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Ebonyi State.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Shittu and other officials to various federal universities, speculation arose that these appointments were compensatory after the individuals were excluded from Tinubu’s ministerial list. Reflecting on his political career, Shittu noted that he had previously served as a minister, a commissioner at age 30 in the old Oyo State, and as the Attorney General of Oyo State in 2007. He maintained that his extensive experience made it unnecessary for him to lobby for the position.

Shittu acknowledged that the appointment came as a surprise, as he had hoped for a more executive role where he could leverage his 45 years of political experience. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to make a positive impact in his new role.

Despite initial concerns about insecurity in the South-East, Shittu described Ebonyi State as peaceful and welcoming, noting that he now looks forward to his visits there.
