Shettima highlighted the country’s vast investment potential, advocated for African economic integration, and engaged in key discussions with international leaders and organizations.

During a session on “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets,” organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and WEF, Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to attracting capital for sustainable development. He pointed to recent economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the removal of subsidies, exchange rate alignment, and tax restructuring, as vital measures ensuring long-term economic stability and growth.

In his backing for African economic integration, the vice president reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and highlighted the continent’s potential to become a $29 trillion economy by 2050. He underscored Nigeria’s readiness to harness digital trade and innovation to drive economic advancement.

Shettima also met with prominent African leaders, including Botswana’s President Duma Boko and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, to discuss enhancing intra-African relations and fostering collaborative growth. He held talks with key figures such as WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and WEF President Børge Brende to address pressing global challenges, including energy security, food crises, and environmental threats.

As part of the “Financial Times Global Risks 2025” dialogue, Shettima advocated for collective action to tackle global crises, emphasizing innovation in education and agriculture to empower youth and accelerate progress.

Accompanied by key government officials, Shettima returned to Abuja on Friday, where he was warmly welcomed by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and other dignitaries at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
