Fuel Price Hike: PDP Accuses Tinubu, APC Of Insulting Nigerians’ Sensibility

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu over the recent fuel price hike, calling it an “anti-people” move that insults the sensibility and well-being of Nigerians.

The PDP’s statement follows the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) adjustment of fuel prices to ₦885 per litre, despite the federal government denying any authorization for the increase.

In a statement released by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party condemned the Tinubu administration for worsening the economic hardship faced by Nigerians. The PDP described the increase as a “brutal assault” on the people and a recipe for crisis, noting that many Nigerians are already struggling with the high cost of living.

The PDP rejected the fuel price hike and demanded its immediate reversal, along with other policies introduced by the current administration. The party accused the APC-led government of being corrupt and secretive in its management of the petroleum sector, further exacerbating the suffering of the Nigerian populace.

The statement highlighted that the price hike would push more Nigerians into poverty, with over 150 million people already living below the poverty line. The PDP also noted the rising unemployment and inflation rates, which are expected to worsen due to the recent fuel price increase.

The PDP urged President Tinubu to reverse the fuel price increase and revisit other “suffocating” policies that are causing economic dislocation in the country. The party also called on the government to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and manage the nation’s resources transparently to alleviate the suffering of the masses.
