Funso Doherty Clinches Lagos NDC Governorship Ticket For 2027
Popular politician Funso Doherty has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, Doherty confirmed his nomination in a post shared on his account on Friday, expressing gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledging to pursue a vision of inclusive governance for Lagos.
Accepting the nomination, Doherty described the opportunity as both an honour and a call to service, emphasizing that his campaign would focus on building a state that works for every resident. He thanked members of the NDC for their confidence in his leadership and declared that the journey toward transforming Lagos had officially begun.
“With profound humility, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose, I accept our party’s nomination to serve as its candidate for Governor of Lagos State in 2027,” he stated, adding that Lagos deserves better and more inclusive leadership. He concluded his message with the rallying phrase, “O TI Ya!”
The announcement was further reinforced by the NDC’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, who publicly affirmed Doherty’s candidacy. Agada expressed confidence that the party’s choice would reshape the political landscape in Lagos, predicting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would face a major challenge in the 2027 governorship election.
