According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has reflected on the early years of her acting career, revealing that it took many years before her work in the Nigerian film industry became financially rewarding. Speaking in an interview with Nolly TV, she disclosed that she joined Nollywood in 2001 but only began earning significant income about eight years ago.

She explained that during her early days in the industry, actors were often poorly compensated and accepted roles primarily to sustain themselves and remain active in the profession. According to her, the earnings at the time were minimal and far from sufficient, but passion for acting and the need to survive kept many practitioners going despite the challenges. She added that her financial situation only improved years later as her career progressed, leading to better-paying roles and production opportunities.

In a related development, Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has also spoken about the financial realities within the industry, stating that public perception of actors’ wealth is often misleading. During a podcast interview with Baaj Adebule, she noted that many people assume Nollywood stars are financially comfortable due to their fame and social media presence, whereas in reality, a significant number of actors still struggle financially despite their popularity on screen.
