A Leader Must Face Crisis” – Umahi Backs Tinubu Beyond 2027

Umahi made this statement on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing bridge projects in Lagos State, including the Carter Bridge, which he announced is set for reconstruction starting next week.

During the inspection, the minister appealed to Nigerians to support and cooperate with the Tinubu administration as it works to address pressing national challenges, particularly insecurity. He maintained that the President’s government would continue to receive divine backing in confronting the nation’s difficulties and fulfilling its mandate.

“The same God that brought him is going to be there to solve all the problems,” Umahi said.

He further noted that while no leader desires instability or crises during their tenure, responsible leadership requires courage and commitment to confront challenges whenever they arise.

“There is no leader who will not want his reign to be peaceful, but when crises come, the leader must confront them. That is exactly what we are doing,” he said.

Umahi expressed confidence that President Tinubu would be granted the wisdom and strength needed to tackle insecurity and other national issues, whether politically influenced or otherwise. He added that the administration remains committed to directly addressing Nigeria’s problems while ensuring the delivery of development projects across the country.

The minister also reaffirmed that all projects initiated under the Tinubu administration would be completed, stressing that the government remained optimistic about achieving its infrastructure goals. He stated that the Carter Bridge reconstruction, part of a five-year infrastructure plan, is expected to be completed within three years.

“The government is determined to ensure that critical infrastructure projects are completed within planned timelines,” he added.

The Carter Bridge, a key link between Lagos Island and the mainland, remains an important route for commuters and economic activities in the state.

Meanwhile, the Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called for President Tinubu’s resignation over worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and general welfare concerns affecting Nigerians.

In a statement signed by its acting National Chairman, Peter Ameh, CUPP aligned with calls from the House of Representatives Minority Caucus, which had urged the President to either demonstrate stronger leadership or step aside.

The group stated that the administration must urgently address the country’s challenges or allow a leadership change capable of delivering better results, stressing that governance is a responsibility, not a right.

CUPP further urged the President to take immediate and visible steps to ease citizens’ suffering, warning that it would continue to closely monitor developments and speak out in the interest of Nigerians.
