Anticipated to be the first of its kind with an African nation, the ETIP aims to deepen the thriving trading relationship between the UK and Nigeria, already valued at £7 billion in 2023.

The pivotal pact will not only facilitate UK lawyers’ access to the Nigerian legal landscape but also dismantle barriers hindering collaboration in the film and media sectors between the two nations.

With Nigeria positioned as Africa’s largest economy and one of the globe’s fastest-growing, predicted to ascend into the top 20 by GDP by 2035 and nearly double its population to over 370 million by 2050, the agreement holds immense promise for both parties.

Expressing her enthusiasm, British Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch hailed the forthcoming ETIP as a harbinger of new opportunities, underscoring Nigeria’s economic dynamism and the potential for mutually beneficial growth.

In tandem, Nigerian Minister for Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka Anitie, celebrated the pact as a catalyst for economic prosperity, envisioning a future where historic ties evolve into a robust partnership fostering market access, job creation, and investment acceleration.

As part of her visit to Nigeria, Badenoch will also engage in discussions aimed at addressing trade barriers faced by UK businesses, further solidifying the foundation for a flourishing trade relationship between the UK and Nigeria.
