The tragic assault on the Zikke community claimed over 50 lives in the early hours of Monday, April 14, with several homes destroyed by fire. This incident followed a similar attack two weeks earlier in Bokkos LGA, where numerous residents were also killed.

During a condolence visit to the Zikke community on Tuesday, Governor Mutfwang, speaking at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Miango, expressed deep remorse over the state’s inability to prevent the violence.

“I have been weeping since the attack occurred. I genuinely believed, with all the security measures we had put in place, that such a tragedy would not happen again. Unfortunately, as with all human efforts, there are times when they fall short. On Sunday night into Monday morning, we failed you. I sincerely ask for your forgiveness,” the governor said.

He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant, assist with intelligence gathering, and report suspicious activities to help protect their communities.

Governor Mutfwang and his delegation visited several bereaved families to offer condolences.

In response, Ronku Aka, the Paramount Ruler of Irigwe land and the Brangwe of Irigwe, appealed to the government to support the affected communities by providing essential social amenities.
