The Osun All Progressives Congress Youths Liberation Movement, a leading youth platform under the APC Directorate of Youths Organisation in Osun State, has hailed the speculated defection of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke to the APC as a monumental political breakthrough for the party and a strategic advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the media at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Osogbo on Thursday, the group’s State Coordinator, Comrade Ajasa Oluwaseun, flanked by other executives, underscored the Governor’s rising influence and electoral prowess across the state. According to iReporter Online, the group emphasized that Adeleke’s popularity and past victories make his potential move a valuable political asset.

Reflecting on Adeleke’s political trajectory, Ajasa recalled his surprise victory during the 2017 Osun West Senatorial bye-election where he triumphed over the APC in nine out of ten local government areas, despite the APC being in control at both state and federal levels. In 2018, he nearly clinched the governorship, and in 2022, he made a victorious comeback, defeating the incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

“Given Senator Adeleke’s proven track record and his administration’s accomplishments, a defection to the APC should be welcomed with open arms. He has every constitutional right to align with any political party of his choice, and from our standpoint, his joining the APC would be a massive boost,” Ajasa stated, according to iReporter Online.

The group also rebuked former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, over his recent comments labelling Governor Adeleke an “orphan.” They described the remark as uncharitable, divisive, and unbecoming of a leader expected to foster party unity. As iReporter Online further noted, the youth group called on party stakeholders to rise above factional rhetoric and work collectively to reposition the APC for electoral victory.
