Group Writes Open Letter To IGP Over Obaseki’s Alleged Sponsorship Of Nation-wide Protest

In a shocking development, the Edo United Action for Democratic Governance (EUADG), led by Engr. Osaro Idehen, has penned an open letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The group expressed serious concerns over rumors suggesting that Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki is allegedly bankrolling a forthcoming nationwide protest in August.

The alleged motive behind this protest is to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration and tarnish the image of the APC in Edo State, thereby shifting support to the PDP and Obaseki’s preferred candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Engr. Idehen and the EUADG did not hold back in their disappointment with Governor Obaseki. They pointed out that as the executive governor, Obaseki has had ample opportunities and resources to meet the needs of Edo State citizens. Instead, the governor is accused of diverting hundreds of millions into sponsoring a protest. The group questioned the utilization of the revenue allocations, government interventions, and international support received over the past eight years. They highlighted the state’s inability to manage even a brief rainfall, leading to severe flooding, as a glaring failure of Obaseki’s administration.

“Dear Inspector General of Police,

We, the members of Edo United Action for Democratic Governance, write to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding recent rumors suggesting that Governor Godwin Obaseki is allegedly sponsoring the upcoming nationwide protest. This development is particularly troubling given the substantial revenue allocations, government interventions, and international support that Edo State has received over the past eight years.

It is disheartening to witness the governor, whose administration has been marked by numerous failures and unfulfilled promises, allegedly engaging in activities that could further destabilize our nation. The people of Edo State have endured significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, healthcare, and education, despite the considerable resources at the governor’s disposal.

Instead of focusing on addressing these critical issues, the governor’s alleged involvement in sponsoring a protest against the federal government raises serious concerns about his priorities and intentions. We believe that such actions, if true, are counterproductive and only serve to divert attention from the real issues at hand.

We respectfully request your esteemed office to investigate these allegations thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that any activities potentially aimed at causing civil unrest are addressed with the seriousness they deserve. The welfare of the citizens of Edo State and the integrity of our national governance depend on responsible leadership and adherence to democratic principles.
